December 23, 2008. National Police agents have arrested 102 people in an operation in Grenada which has uncovered a fraud against the Social Security Treasury in excess of 4,200,000 euros. An investigation was initiated to detect the existence of several companies, as they were running up debts for unpaid social insurance contributions to the General Treasury of Social Security, caused low. The Inspectorate of Labour and Social Security found that there was no work to justify the high number of workers, about 1,800, that those companies involved in construction, remained high. In these companies, which had little or occupational lacked it, "in fact the Labour Inspectorate located only a work-workers had been discharged from a large number of people. These assumptions workers said they worked but did not identify the places, circumstances and situations that developed the alleged work activity. A large proportion were women, many of which are regularly engaged in street vending and in other cases, had no previous business activity.
People were discharged from this business, after joining the minimum vesting periods established by law, requested and obtained the INEM, based on this alleged work activity, performance and / or unemployment benefits, increasing the amount of proceeds received more than 650,000 €.

All companies in the group came consistently failing, and since the beginning of its activity, the obligation to pay contributions for insurance for their workers, increasing the amount of uncovered about € 4,200,000.

The operation, developed by the Research Section of the Social Security of the Central UDEF, attached to the Commissioner General of Police Judicial Brigade along with the Judicial Police Provincial de Granada, is not complete and does not rule out further arrests to detect the possible existence of new businesses linked to the group.
